Editing a page

In order to add or change information on the web site, you will be presented with a special web page with a Page name field and a section where you can edit the body of the page.

Above the body editing section are a series of buttons for formatting and other word-processing activities (Mouse over the buttons to see what they do).  To alter the format of a piece of text, you highlight it, then press the associated button.

Adding images

The first thing you need is an understanding of how images work on web pages.  Images are not embedded in the web page, instead, for a page to display an image, it must contain a link to the image file, where the link is a descripton of where on the internet to find the file.  (It can also contain modifications like title, size etc.). The point is that you have to think a bit differently about adding images to web page - you have to upload the image first, then refer to it in the link you add to the page you are editing. Fortunately, one of the buttons will help you do this..

In the top row, about sixth from the right is the IMCE button.  It is the only colour button - a button which looks like a green picture with a brown frame.  Follow these steps to use it:

  1. Move the mouse to the location in the text where you want the image to go.
  2. Click on the IMCE button and a new window will open.
  3. Click on the upload button in the top-left to open a dialogue window.
  4. Select the image file on your computer to upload and click 'upload'.
  5. Select the image you want to go into the text from the list on the right.
  6. Click the insert file button on the top row and the image will appear in your text.
  7. Double-click on the image to modify its size, alignment, or other parameters.
