We are seeking a full-time Lead Automotive Engineer to join our Electric Vehicle Conversion Division.
This role requires a multi-disciplinary skill set in both mechanical and electrical system design, with a strong emphasis on collaboration with the EVC Installation Team.
The Lead Automotive Engineer will focus on designing EVC solutions for classic and unique cars. This includes developing new designs, modifying existing systems, product testing, and creating off-the-shelf EV kits.
The position will also involve managing a team of EVC technicians and contractors, ensuring compliance with relevant standards, and working closely with suppliers.
We are interested in hearing from individuals with backgrounds in automotive Engineering, mechanical or electrical Engineering, or those with hands-on experience in building electric vehicles.

Job Requirements
- Experience:
Responsibilities:
● Manage and lead the EVC Technician team and contractors.
● Ensure compliance with relevant Australian Design Rules (ADRs), Vehicle Modification Applications, and other licensing requirements by working closely with accredited vehicle modification Engineers.
● Oversee EVC installation, collaborating with the EVC installation team, liaising with suppliers, and managing stock orders.
● Prepare EVC Vehicle Assessment Reports.
● Apply knowledge and experience in workshop management to ensure efficient operations.
● Ensure safety and adherence to company Quality Management Systems, OHS/E policies, and procedures. - Skills:
Mechanical Skills:
● General mechanical design
● Sheet metal and tube steel
● Chassis design
● Automotive driveline experience (CV joints, UJs, splines, gears, bearings, flywheels, clutches, differentials, transmissions)
● Cooling system design, including battery cooling
● Manufacturing understanding (sheet metal cutting and folding, tube steel profiling and bending, welding, plastic injection moulding, CNC machined parts)
● Bodywork (steel bodywork, fibreglass/carbon fibre bodywork)
● Suspension design (suspension calculations, spring stiffness calculations, torsional stiffness calculations)Electrical Skills:
● 12V Systems:
- Design loom, create and interpret wiring schedules
- Maximum circuit demand calculations
- Manufacture wiring loom, terminations, soldering, etc.
- Understand traditional automotive 12V harnessesHigh Voltage (HV) Systems:
- Design layout, manufacture with terminations/plugs, etc.
- PCB design and manufacture
- Programming of PCBs
- Reverse engineering modern vehicle systems
- Adept in CAN protocolManagement Skills:
● General management
● Financial management
● Stock management and ordering - Computer Skills:
● Microsoft Office, Fusion 360, Solidworks
● CAD proficiency.Skills and Experience:
● Proven experience in workshop management.
● Proficiency in working with high and low voltage environments.
● Strong self-management and organizational skills.
● Valid Mechanic Repairers Licence.
● WA Drivers Licence (manual).
● Minimum 3 years of experience in a similar industry and role.
● Ability to manage your own workload, oversee contractors, and meet deadlines.
● Experience in manufacturing, Engineering, compliance, fabrication, and testing. - Education Required:
Selection Criteria:
● Minimum 3 years of experience in the automotive industry.
● Valid Mechanic Repairers Licence.
● Qualified tradesperson, mechanical or electrical Engineer, or significant experience with EVs.
● Experience working in high and low voltage environments.
● Proactive with the ability to manage workload and contractors effectively.
● Hold a WA Drivers Licence (manual).
