Base Ioniq hybrid pricing...

Post by memecode »

Does anyone else find the price of the Ioniq hybrid a bit steep?

Lets say compare it with the Toyotas (all prices drive away):
- Ioniq Hybrid: $38.7k
- Corolla Hybrid: $30k
- Prius: $40.5k
- PriusV: $41.7k
- Rav4 Hybrid: $40k

The Ioniq is on par with the Corolla size wise... but a lot more expensive. Look at the $40k mark I expect to get a LOT more car for my money.

I'd say the Ioniq is a far better car than those others.
Assuming these are before on-road costs?

Many would argue that Toyota has a far better brand image, lets say when it comes to reliability and resale value. What makes you think Hyundai is better?

As I said... drive away prices. So on road.

Really, all modern cars are pretty good. And when comparing an EV and an ICE in identical trim - the EV always wins.

It probably could be cheaper but if people are willing to pay $40k then that's what hyundai will sell it for...
Also none of the Toyotas have a plug...

memcode, are you referring to the non-plugin hybrid Ionic vs Toyota hybrids?

Yes. So it's apples to apples.

What about the Camry hybrid? If the travel tax is introduced for full electric vehicles, a hybrid might be a better option. add a PHEV pack after market like we have in our 2006 Prius and it really does result in cheap motoring for those trips under 100kms.
