20" wheels, sound suited to truck 22"wheels eh. Isn't that truck company Tesla now owns building just that? A hub motor capable of only 50kW would revolutionise the trucking industry. A prime mover has 4 rear wheels, that's 200kW on the ground, add a dolly to tow a trailer, that has 6 wheels on the ground, now you have a 2 full size trailer (not a B double with one short and one long trailer) with 500kW on the ground and the power evenly distributed rather than just through the 4 prime mover wheels. Add anther one and you now have an 800kW on the ground road train that can climb hills on dirt roads without a problem and take off from a steep hill start without risking snapping tailshafts or axles or simply tearing the tyres to bits.
What about the dolly being remote controlled to travel at 5km/h, now you can move trailers around a yard, in and out of loading docks and around trailer exchange yards.
The other plus, no more smoking brakes and noisy Jake brakes on the long down hill decent, if the motor can deliver 50kW it could act as a great regen retarder.
