Towing with the Outlander PHEV

Post by Johny » Mon, 20 Feb 2017, 15:44

I have started a blog about our experiences (just beginning) towing a near 1500kg camper trailer (Caravan) with the 2014 Outlander PHEV.

I have already exploded some pre-conceptions that I had. Mostly about the use of the Charge button.

Start at the bottom post for some history leading up to the PHEV purchase.

I'll post here each time I add a post to the blog.

Note that the blog is not yet searchable from google.

Towing with the Outlander PHEV

Post by rhills » Mon, 20 Feb 2017, 17:22

Hi Johnny,

Thanks for posting the blog and letting us know about it. I've not towed much with our PHEV yet so I'll be following it with interest!

I remember reading somewhere about a Queensland tradie who said he was regularly (IIRC, most days of the week) towing much more than the limit (from memory nearly twice) with no reported problems.

Yes I think it may be a case of being better off ignoring the instrumentation and just driving it. But I'd like to know as we'll being doing a 10 day trip at Easter with legs up to 350km. Moving almost every day.

I just posted the return trip and some observations.

Thanks for posting your towing experiences. I've towed a few vans in my time, however none with the PHEV (yet).

Here is what 1500kg gets you in Europe, this guy is passionate about using "Charge" mode in his PHEV, I guess he has a "bit" more windage, lol.

I posted some observations in the past couple of days on the PHEV towing blog. Not suprizingly, they match other PHEV towing findings.
