Looking for iMiEV Android App beta testers

Post by zzcoopej » Mon, 29 Feb 2016, 00:08

Hi fellow iMiEV owners,
Following from the success of our Outlander PHEV Android App, we're looking for beta testers for the new iMiEV version of our Android App EvBatMon (Electric Vehicle Battery Monitor). If you currently use caniOn, or want to know what is going on inside your iMiEV battery and e-motors, please make contact via our website or by emailing evbatmon@gmail.com with your gmail or Google Apps email address. The beta is now full, thanks to those who applied
More info here -
www.evpositive.com/evbatmon-for-i-miev.html

An iOS version should be available in 3-6 months time.

I'm interested and have an i-MiEV and android, but don't have the dongle that plugs into the car. Are there particular ones you can suggest that will work?
Gave up on Canion because it never kept working more than a few minutes.

Ah, just found this
http://www.evpositive.com/evbatmon-for-phev.html#OBD
I presume the ones that work for PHEV are likely to work for the i-MiEV too.

caniOn only supports the Scantools OBD as they use STN11xx rather than ELM327 protocol. We support a wider range of OBD, however it is still the case that some will work and others won't due to the different ECU in our Mitsubishi's breaking poor standards in some cheap OBD clones. We will start building a similar list for the iMiEV based on feedback from beta testers.
I assume it was the Scantools that only worked for a few minutes for you with caniOn, do you still have that OBD or did you get rid of it?

The most important point of difference EvBatMon offers right now is the ability to determine and track the current capacity of your drive battery and our App allows you to compare your battery to other owners via www.EvBatMon.com . This will help owners get warning that there might be trouble ahead. EvBatMon is also customisable whereas caniOn only has its fixed screens.

Hi, I have sent you a email regarding the beta testing.

I have a question about the current battery capacity reported. Has your reported capacity always diminished over time or has there been periods where it has actually shown a increase in comparison to the last time it was read.

It all helps in solving the mystery on how the BMS comes to it's conclusions.

Great to have you on board for the beta Kurt!

The PHEV BMS ECU definitely can report an increase in capacity, as my PHEV which went up from 35.4Ah to 35.8Ah, show by the rightmost 2 RED dots here - www.evpositive.com/battery-history.html
I have also seen an increase in the data coming in from another PHEV.
From what I know so far the iMiEV BMS ECU will be the same however I have yet to collect evidence from our iMiEV.
For me it makes sense that different loads on the battery will produce different capacity readings. Also different DOD will give a less or more accurate calculation, so I suspect the best reading will be after a full (<2 bars) drain. Certainly that was the case with my PHEV increased capacity reading as it was after my first long trip in a while.

I think it was a scantools, I just borrowed it from my father to try out, and was not inspired to buy one.

I might give the ebay one in your list a go.

I have just tested and can confirm that the ebay wifi adapter on the PHEV list works in our iMiEV.
However be aware that ebay products can change from shipment to shipment, already we have noted one OBD adapter on the PHEV list which worked in one shipment but not the next.

I would like to be a tester too. I have an old I-MiEV, from March 2011, that is now with 5 years. I use Canion since 2014 and I have a recent value for my current battery capacity obtained in a test at Mitsubishi.

It is not really working for me.
Not sure if it is my adapter (ebay wifi one above) or something else.
Most of the time I get "connecting" messages, but a blank screen.
Occasionally it will connect and give me some battery stats (80% battery condition) but doesn't give the cell be cell graph.
It also frequently gives OBD device not supported error.
uploading the data I have says it found the file but not whether it uploaded it or not.
viewing the graphs on evbatmon.com it says Data column(s) for axis #0 cannot be of type string

Not sure if it is the software or my adapter. Is there a better discussion of this elsewhere?

Hi Mike, thanks for the feedback. The other place for discussion is myImiev.com . We are still working on reliability eg handling the occasional bad data packet from some OBD adapters. To help us do this, would it be possible for you to in preferences tick the "log debug info" option and use the App for a while. Then zip up and send the EvBatMon_debug_log.txt file(s) as well as the EvBatMon_PMC file(s) to evbatmon@gmail.com so we can look into your issues.
I think the issue with the website would just be that you have no data points, probably related to the issues with the App preventing the collection of battery and odometer data.
We did release the App prematurely due to a few requests from owners keen to know their battery degradation. I hope you can bear with us while we further refine the iMiEV version.

Cool,
I have read the myImiev thread, downloaded the lastest update, and turned on debug logging. Travelling by bicycle today though so it won't work yet.

Interested in Beta-testing the app please. I have the Yankie OBD2 bluetooth plug, & it runs with Canion.
We have an issue with the battery in our Imiev, so the app will help.
