Power Source -different plugs,sockets,adapters

Post by photomac » Wed, 04 Dec 2013, 22:40

So - I have a LEAF, it's portable recharge adapter, E-Station charger, a Jaycar trip-able 10A-15A converter, 15A short extension cord. But, I notice there are other source of sockets at various installs around Perth - like this.

Image

It is called ?
Can I use an adapter - and how - for my LEAF?

it's a 3 phase 415V neutral earth 5 pin.

Contact brian over at the australian leaf owners forum and he'll make you a 3 phase to 15amp cable. you just pick one of the phases and use the earth and neutral.

Gabz mentioned that it's a 3 phase 415V neutral and earth 5 pin socket. I would add that it's the 32 A variety, with the line and earth pins larger than the central neutral pin (hope I got that right). There is also a 20 A variety that is not compatible in any way.

Have your adapter test and tagged.
I have 20 and 32A versions in regular use. They have 16A RCDs in an inline box to the 15A socket. It should all be at least IP55 if located outdoors.
Know where the switch board is.

I assumed it's a picture of one of city of perth parking charge sites http://www.recargo.com/sites/7987 Which means there is a sign next to it saying it's ok. they are all 3 phase i think because the cars used in the EV trial had type2 mennekes 3phase inputs. but yes if no sign make sure you ask.

wiclo,

Just a note. The adapter cable should contain a 16A current limiting device. I would question an electrician having connected a 32A plug directly to a 15A socket. I did raise this with Patrick.

The WA EV trial Ford Focus conversions had 3 phase plugs in the vehicles and allowed 32A 3 phase charging.

E-Station has efficiently built and delivered a 3-phase, 30A plug to 15A single phase socket ( At least that's what I think it is ) and they have honoured a good discount as I am a AEVA member. I used it successfully in "His Majesty's Theatre" carpark, Perth. Thanks E-Station!!!!!

By the way, I have also received a RFID card for the Leederville charge point. It is different to the ChargePoint RFID in Mt Lawley. The Leederville one is available from the Leederville Council for $20. If you have an E-Station Charger at home I think they will throw the RFID card in. Thanks again E-Station!!!

Cockburn youth centre has massive 63A 500V connector 30kW plug

the yellow sockets are only 10A 240V single phase unlike the city of Perth's 32A 3phase 415V

amazing it was open September 13 2008 hence the use of the yellow industrial switches cos the 2010 WA EV trial was taking place about the same time.

That 63A point is actually good for 44kw as it's 3-phase (63A * 240 * 3 or 63A * 415V * sqrt(3))

just need a big enough charger now :D

Mark and/or Ant were there this morning talking with the media about the new charge point. Hopefully 7 kW a side. Too bad no production EV can make use of this power. Maybe the 2015 Leaf will come with a 7 kW charger?

BMW i3 may make use of this capacity.

2nd gen leaf charges at 32A.
but Nissan Aus will probably skip this due to overstocking of gen 1 LEAFs.
