Is this motor suitable for an ev?

Post by gregted » Fri, 03 Aug 2012, 02:44

Just realised I had a big electric motor sitting in the garage that may be suitable for my 1981 Ford Courier ev project.

A while ago I was given a 7.5 kva dunlite genset and it has sat in the corner of my shed since.

The motor is huge. 320mm long, 270 diameter and bloody heavy.

Don't know how this will work being a generator and the max revs may be too low... Any ideas

It's a single phase generator - unfortunately not much use. I can't see how you would control it's speed.

Maybe not as a motor, but perhaps as a range-extender!

It looks more and more like my old 81 courier ute might be the donor roller so are you saying that this on the back could be a range extender? Sort of like a poor mans plug in hybrid!

Yeah. 7.5kVA would do a fair bit, though probably not enough to keep going indefinitely.
