AC controllers . evaluation

Post by HeadsUp »

been looking through AC controllers......

very expensive box of bits , anyone know of a website where all the AC inverter controllers known to humankind have been listed and compared on price and functionality ?

Brusa DMC 514 53 kW 120-480 V   ( not in production yet )
        DMC 524 100 kW 120-480 V   $ 37,000 AUD ( yeah thats just for one )

AZURE DMOC445 47 kW 100-400 V $ 3450 USD ( from BEV )
        DMOC645 97 kW 100-400 V $ 5395 USD

MESDEA TIM 400 50kW 80-400 V $ 5100 USD

Danfoss ?

Control techniques ?

ABB ?

50 kW would be enough for me , first vehicle is hoped to be a late model toyota RAV4 , as i anticipate that the later the model , the better the resale value will be.
and before you say the donor will be expensive , i am scouting the vehicle disposal auctions looking for a flood damaged or theft recovered vehicle as a cheaper entry.

i intend going around a few second hand machinery dealers to see what they have in stock in second hand controllers

what else can people recommend to look for , and to avoid ?

i am interested to look at a few CNC lathe drive motors and controllers too , as they have a massive range in speed and low down torque , who knows , if i am lucky i might find an obsolete lathe or mill with a broken CNC controller but working motor and motor controller for cheap . but have to then determine if the controller can run off DC , voltage range , Regen etc etc etc

you never know your luck in the big sh*tty'

edited to add controller details

Hmmm.
Would be better to find one with Torque control.
Just remember even though you may be getting a 15kW motor you will still need a controller to handle the peak ie 15 x 3 = 45kW.
Also another thing to watch for is the DC Bus rail limits.
Some may have a minimum/maximum operating voltage that may be exceeded by your battery pack.
So this may shut down the controller.
They should all have a DC bus rail but may not be directly accesible.
In which case you may have to find them.

The industrial ones are quite large as there is usually plenty of room in a factory.

Can't say I have seen a comparison between brands.
Here could be a good place to start...
So the short answer is NO but the long answer is YES.

AC controllers . evaluation

thanks Richo

would it format here if we pasted stuff into an Excel file in the post ?

as members find new product they could either post it in reply where its copied in to the spreadsheet by a moderator or else PM it straight to a moderator for inclusion in the excel file so its all in one place.

maybe doing the same thing with drive motors could be useful so we dont get 300 scattered threads and posts chasing the same information.

one file for AC and one for DC of course.

any suggestions ? reply with

a) agree
b) disagree
c) definitely undecided
d) down the plughole looking for the economy

Don't worry about the excel file.
Just editing your first post with your exisiting list is fine.
The only other thing I would add is the hyper link at the end of the item for people to see for themselves.
Otherwise other people could copy and paste the list into thier post if they choose.

Motors aren't too bad as there are quite a few to choose from.
Each conversion/person would best just ask what suits thier needs.
(In thier own thread)
ie New Topic "AC Vitara help" or "DC Celica help"

Yes the economy gurgles down.
Lots of parts I buy cost more now Image
So the short answer is NO but the long answer is YES.
