Possibe ICE Donor Vehicle...?

Post by lithbattboss »

I came across this possible ICE donor vehicle with a blown motor and thought it might make a good EV conversion.
But questions remain.......
What motor? AC or DC? Perhaps a Zilla controller?
Is the chassis strong enough for lead acid batteries (body looks good...no sign of rust) or should I just spare the expense and go with lithiums?

Any suggestions? Image

Considering the frame being somewhat on the lighter side I would definately go the lithiums (might even be able to score you a good deal of some LifeBatts)

Motor wise I would be inclined towards something mid mounted for better weight distribution. If you budget stretches that far maybe a AWD conversion??? Image

Nah just remove one of the front wheels and register it as a trike. Don't need to worry about crumple zones then.

Go the Zilla 2k, you always need more power.

The Zilla 2k sounds like a good idea with A123 cells.
The suggestion by EV2Go of a 4 wheel drive conversion is a good one since I have seen similar model vehicles parked in the most rugged places such as bush land, creek beds and the like. So these vehicles definitely sound like a good candidate for 4 wheel drive conversion.
Thanks for the suggestion EV2Go! Image

The express lane at Coles takes on a whole new meaning ! Image

Is this a comment on the design philosophy of Honda ? Image

OK, front wheels as castors and hub motors on the rear with steering via torque distribution to hub motors.

Go DC if you really have to, just as long as the DC ends at the battery terminals. Image

Lithium ? Just as long as there is room for the shopping you can power it anyway you like.

Does that mean we get lithium at supermarket prices ? Image

Put SLA on the bottom frame to keep the centre of gravity low to improve handing.
I'm sure by the time the batteries are out of charge you'll be begging to get out anyway. Image
So the short answer is NO but the long answer is YES.
