I just noted on Dragster.com.au site this little paragraph.

Guidelines for electric powered vehicles have been ratified and persons wishing to develop such vehicles should contact ANDRA Technical.

I have sent ANDRA an email am awaiting a response.

I now have a copy of the ANDRA Electric Powered Vehicle Supplement.
It might be worth a look if you are ever considering taking your EV to the strip. PM me for a copy.

Thankyou for this.
Interesting that they say contactors as master off is ok, from meetings with our race car the techies would like to have seen a physical switch in the line. The contactors is much easier to make multiple connections for though.

A lot of thought has gone in to these..
we can build cars to rules.
But how do you go racing if you don't have a class to race in Image at this time we can't go to the street meetings and go racing.
even if your car meets all RTA's rules you can't go racing.

If you would like to help to fix this..
Start here ANDRA Rules Amendment Policy

ANDRA Rule submissions are now being accepted, as per the ANDRA Rules Policy, between 1st September and 1st November.
Rules submissions need to provided on a template and must meet the following criteria;
·        must clearly state the full name and address of the author;
·        must provide details if any, of their involvement in drag racing;
·        must detail the proposed new rule or proposed amendments to an existing rule;
·        must offer reasons why the rule or the amendment should be considered.
When providing reasons and other material supporting a submission the author must directly address the following issues wherever possible:
o   Does the rule protect the safety of participants and spectators?
o   Is the rule a positive step for the sport?
o   Is the impact of the rule on other classes and brackets a positive one?
o   Does the rule ensure increased opportunity for even competition?
o   Is the rule practical and enforceable?
o   Is the cost of complying with the rule reasonable for competitors?

rules say you can do exhibition runs...

"Although an all-out competitive category does not exist for Electric-Powered vehicles, these vehicles are recoginsed by ANDRA member tracks. Currently Electric Powered Vehicles will have to compete as Exhibition Vehicles."

At least you could run your vehicle. I would like to do a rear engined mini but at just over 80" in wheel base it is not allowed. Only if the motor is in original location is it permitted.

thought this was interesting...

Maximum height of electric motor output shaft centreline is 36-inches on OEM trucks; all others 24-inches.

I wanted to take my bike to the usual street meets, but because it's electric (even though fully road registered) I would have needed to add a 1/4" thick chain guard, mechanical power disconnects operated from the handlebars, plasma shields on the motor (even AC!), etc, etc, etc.

And if you do all that you still can not run at a street meet..
( you have to pay $1500 a year and run as exhibition )

Just some background questions Speedily:
are hybrids (Prius, Lexus, Honda) already allowed to race and/or have any ?

Any exhibition EVs race?

I hope to drag my EV at least once when it's finished (~15s?) and probably once before I start (~24s?) as a baseline.
