Anyone think this would be a good idea?
Could do limited imports (UK) of cars automakers can't be bothered bringing here;
Renault Zoe, smart electric drive, Chevy bolt, plus stock some leafs etc all with a view to actually selling rather than talking down EV's.
If this goes ahead the only concern is who pays for warranty claims if the Australian branches have collectively decided not to support these cars? The overseas distributor?

I assume the warranties are invalid on any car grey imported.

At least Zero motorcycles is ADRing their bikes even if dealers come and go. Would this make direct imports possible?

Grey import - You can import new cars if the model is not currently being offered in Australia.
So there shouldn't be a problem... Just need to figure it how to do it.

Yeah after getting distracted from work i found that stuff
https://infrastructure.gov.au/roads/motor/sevs/
I would start by going to one of the jap imports places who have done it multiple times for petrol cars and getting them to do one. and then you would have an idea of the process. basically your best of going with a model of import on demand.
you'll also need to become a licensed motor dealer
