Perth Sun Fair - 5th April 2009
Hi all,
In 2 months time the annual Perth Sun Fair is on once again at the Oak Lawn, UWA. This event is one of the highlights on the calendar for anyone interested in sustainability and the environment. Last year had over 80 exhibitors and many thousands of visitors throughout the day.
In 2008, we (AEVA Perth) had a very popular marquee with several EVs on display. Local businesses EVShop and EVPower were also in attendance with their own marquees. This year the organisers have indicated that they would love to have an even larger showing from the EV community.
So I thought I'd start a forum thread for brainstorming ideas, how would you like AEVA to be represented at the Sun Fair, and/or which EVs would you like to see on display?
And of course, I encourage everyone to come along on the day - it really is a great event.

Very tempting. We are planning a trip to Cairns in April/may, might just change our destination!

AFAIK there'll only be space for a few cars to be parked around the AEVA marquee, so I expect we'll have to pick a few good examples. I'm hoping we can get the UWA Getz down there because it's a tidy conversion and relatively high-profile project (backed by the uni).
That said it is great that there are quite a lot more EVs out there to choose from this year.
Last year we discussed having a bit of an "EV rally" on the day, i.e getting as many EVs as possible together and driving in convoy to the Sun Fair - but the plan kind of fell through. Perhaps something to consider for this year? Could be a good media stunt.

So will the new zeva controller be ready for the MX5? or borrow matt's zilla? The MX5 is one of the best conversions in Perth and the sort of thing the public want to see.
Meet in the city and drive via Mounts Bay Road to UWA ?

I've had my very own Z2K-EHV sitting here for a couple of months now! But with the significant rebuild planned soon and Steve Gates' Silvia currently in the workshop, I decided to hold off installing it until I was able to do everything properly.
The ThunderSkys are all out of the MX5 now, currently being installed in the Silvia, and assembly of my K2 pack is going to require a lot time and effort! I'd love to have it all done in time for the Sun Fair, but it's looking unlikely..

Picture conversion books are good for people to look at.
Flyers people can take with them - like the ones you were handing out Ian.
http://www.zeva.com.au/publications.php
A number of people there so people ask them questions about eV's.
I would also like to see info on how solar ties into eV's.
(my solar is paid for just waiting for govt approval&installation)
If there is power then maybe a monitor flicking through Australian eValbum or short flicks that people have made up.
Display peices - controller, motor, battery types.

That comment about solar is very interesting. The Willetton Senior High School will have their solar racer on display, the organiser (Leonie) says that we can all be together, EVs, scooters,Vectrix and the racer. UWA plan to have the Getz on hand.
Any comments about layout? All in a row, back to back in a square or rectangle with the space in front covered in EVs. Leonie says we can have lots of space for cars. How many are free to display on the day? It's Sunday 5th April. All day, early till 4.00pm ish.

Looks like it'd be a good show to go to. Might have to come down and have a look.
As for EV displays, I'd say a good mix would be the way to go. The mustang is an obvious choice, and a newer racer-type if the MX5 isn't available. And Red Suzi would be good to show that off-road is possible too!
If practical (though it probably isn't) a car that's partly converted would show something of the process, too.
I'll definately try to get there. (Hopefully I'm not working.)

So who's going? Did everything get finalised? Unfortunately, I'm working on sunday 'till 14:30, so I probably won't be able to drop by. Hope it all goes well!

The AEVA Stand all setup and ready for visitors.

The eV grin still lingers for most.

Lots of batteries and motors to impress all.

Crazy inventions to make people think outside the box.

It was a drug free event and most were happy with that.

Solar powered cars shading themsleves from the awesome power of the sun.

Lots of electric cars for every one to talk about.

Nice photos, BJ. That racing track, was it fastest cranker wins? Kids'd love that.
One thing though, from Richo's pics:
I'm not sure I'd be comfortable with that wheel being so close to my meat-n-veg. It would probably be great fun up until it got painful, though.

Do they ever! It was great watching them "bust a nut" (no pun intended for the previous photo!) to beat their mates on a crank off
