Re: Prelude conversion project - some questions

One of the connections to the enable relay (D) is +12 V with respect to pin E, and on older Elcon/TC chargers, this is connected with low impedance (like a shunt) to battery negative. Can you measure about 12 V between D and E now? If not, the internal 12 V power supply probably has blown, via some...

Re: Brendon_m Moke

I was going to have gloss black on the front but I started putting it on and it showed up WAY too many imperfections, so I changed out for a satin black. I'm happy with how it turned out. The matte finish contrasts well with the glossy metallic green. IMG_20190914_212304.jpg Now i just need to paint...

Re: Brendon_m Moke

If you saw the paint in person you probably won't doubt my willingness to scratch it. After way to much work trying to make it look good with the panel prep work I ran out of F's to give and decided rough enough was good enough and I just wanted a painted car so I accelerated to process by sk...

Re: Brendon_m Moke

Had the day off today to play dad while my wife went to work. In between the screaming I gave up sanding and filling holes /divots because I have no patience for that and decided to get a few layers of paint down. IMG_20190912_095252.jpg IMG_20190912_195836.jpg It doesn't show well in the picture bu...

Re: On tow?

Yes they can be towed and in order to have regen the key would have to be on etc but yes they technically could be recharged by towing, not the nicest way to treat a tow strap (or tow vehicle for that matter) but a little regen might help keep it tight all the time some it's probably slightly benefi...

Just to put it out there, all I did was smash "lithium e bike kit" into eBay search and posted the first item as an example. I'm definitely not vouching for it or its quality.

Re: Dash Cam on Highlander

Dash cams generally draw next to nothing so unless you leave the car for a week (or more) it won't drain the 12v battery. The bigger problem is normally memory card space, if you have a camera recording 24/7 it'll chew through the SD card and may record over something that happens when the car was f...

Wow, that all sounds depressing, worst part is you may have made it home if you didn't do all the stops looking for a charge.

Surely there's an ebike conversion kit that comes with a lithium battery and charger you can use.
Something like this maybe

Re: Brendon_m Moke

Been doing a lot of panel work lately. Mostly filling the literary 100's of holes that had been drilled in it for the roof and lights and who knows what else. IMG_20190825_161614.jpg But I'm finally making progress and started painting it in primer/filler. Although the contents of the can was old an...

Scrap that, I have maximum dardiness. I can look at power usage up to yesterday, so unless I was just read and they're super efficient (doubtful), my meter must phone home constantly

Re: 3 phase supply but no 415v connections

I have a mate who works at Western power and even he didn't think the readings where more granular then peak, shoulder, off peak but If I log onto the synergy website I can look at power usage in 30min increments. I believe it's still manually read but they obviously download logs. I don't know if a...

Re: Kona Charging at Fast Chargers

I think the 100kW comes from hyundai saying "charges to 80% in X minutes when connected to a 100kW dc charger".
The car is only rated to 70?kW but you won't get that from a 50kW charger, you need a 100kW (for obvious reasons)
So marketing speak at it's finest

Re: 3 phase supply but no 415v connections

Would we even have to tell them? In WA, Western power want to know the serial number of the inverter so if you change it technically you're meant tell them(and they may refuse the unit). But it's not like they are going to come round and check the number as long as you don't start exporting at midn...

Re: Home charging

Oh yeah I see it now, it does actually say wiring AND power point. But on that note I find it interesting that in order to run a 2.4kw (10a) device you need to run wiring capable of 20a. Almost as if the wiring code was skimping all along and only now needs to be upgraded because of EVs. In t...

I'm not a 240v sparky, I'm just going by what I've heard/read By piggy backing I mean you can't have a 15a socket and just add a second next it without running an extra cable to the meter box to its own breaker In terms of the wire size, this article https://reneweconomy.com.au/new-rules-to-increase...

Re: Home charging

I was under the impression that all 15a sockets had to be on their own breaker wiring and that piggy backing etc wasn't allowed. I did hear that for EVs you need to now over size the wiring because they draw so much for so long.

Re: car hoist

$600? Lucky my garage isn’t really tall enough for a hoist. Kinda defeats the purpose when you can’t get the vehicle much higher than a jack stand. I don't have the height for one either, my shed is a sea container and my garage is just a standard under the main roof carport. Maybe it could go out ...
