Re: Arvio 3.5kWh drop-in-battery-replacement supercapacitor on sale

The super cap module internal resistance of 6mOhms explains the jump to match the power supply voltage IMO. So what are the questions that this raises? No questions - just some annoying facts. A 6 mOhm internal resistance would result in a jump of 0.0462 volts @7.7 Amps. The jump is more easily exp...

When you removed the short, why did the voltage jump up to over 50 volts?

I just hope that *when* its real, that people are as quick to apologise as they were to criticise.
"When" we find out its real I will eat each hat in my closet ....

Very interesting. They appear to have the buck/boost converter built in which makes it a really good alternative to batteries for load shifting with the great cycle life.

The traction generator definitely starts the ICE in the Outlander PHEV. I don't think there is a conventional starter motor at all.

Re: 18v Power tool batteries ?

The power tool battery packs actually contain a number of lipo cells in series. These cells are not rated to put out high current and will sag (voltage drop) if asked to do so. They will also not last long. EV battery packs using these smaller cells usually place many of them in parallel - then then...

Very detailed documentation. It looks pretty good to me. Since I have an AC motor and the car is under-controller powered - I find this very interesting too.

Re: Driving an EV in slow moving traffic?

Mine does not have creep mode and I find it no concern at all. With Regen braking it's pretty much single pedal with just moving to the brake pedal to hold still. On hills I two foot it. I don't miss creep mode and find driving normal autos a bit annoying now.

Re: Johny's Electric Vogue

Thanks for the offer Terry but I think the effort getting them to 60v would be a bit too much. I have recently bought a charger rated to 5 Amps and dialled down to 3 as a replacement to try and I think it'll be massively more reliable. I may just replace them as they fail and stop repairing the old ...

I've edited my previous post - yes it's wrong. It look like a capacitor so may be more prone to RF Interference or EMI than if it was correctly placed.
Can you elaborate on "doesn't discharge properly"?.

Re: 2nd Hand LEAF

My expectation would be one bar lost. Two if it has been treated badly. If you google, somewhere there is a description of how much capacity each of these bars represents - it's not linear. Ahh what the heck - I googled it. The first lot of hot links tells the story. One bar lost is 15% lost, 2 bars...

Re: 2nd Hand LEAF

The Leaf comes with a handy battery condition indicator right there on the dash. The large inner scale is the projected range for "today", while the outer scale is the overall battery pack condition.
You can quickly assess when the condition is before even driving the car.

Johny's Electric Vogue

I seem to only post here with problems but that's just because the Vogue has now done over 35,000km and never stranded me - or missed a day of travel. The chargers are pretty much my only ongoing issue. I had a spectacular charger failure a couple of months ago. The Vogue has 12 of 59V 3A chargers -...

Re: Removing ICE

Initially limit what you are pulling out to the engine and stuff attached to it. Eg. Aircon, steering pump etc. Only remove other stuff if it's in your way. It's surprizing how easy it is to forger where to put stuff back as the months drift by... I had lots of sandwich bags with correct fasteners i...

Re: Charging cable has died!!!

I haven't had any issues since I used ferrules on all wires.
I carefully inspect every few months anyway.
I have also re-terminated all my extension cords using ferrules - including sealed ones as I sometimes charge the PHEV via an extension cord so don't want to be wondering which one is which.

Great that it was fairly simple (easy to say once the nerves calm down) Greg.
Love to hear about the progress of the Minicab as time goes by.
It's a vehicle I have my eye on if my DIY ever has a non-repairable accident.

Re: minicab miev charging help

Locate the fusebox and check all the fuses. If you have the owners manual it should tell you which fuse does interior lights etc.
Oh - and I'd remove the "wire" to the head unit until you understand why it caused the trouble.

Re: iMiEV - any good?

I also thought Victoria had some legislation about being able to identify the previous owner of a 2nd hand car. Easily ducked I would imagine but worth asking. A previous owner should have no reason not to be honest about the cars' range.
