BTW: the Twizy will also be on display at the MARCH 16th Melbourne EV Expo run by Renew. (See separate noti...

Re: How common are leaf with 6.6kw on board chargers?

Hi there Raoul-only 2013 onwards had the option of a 6.6kW charger. All 2011 and 2012 ones have 3.6. Therefore 'virtually' all Australian delivered ones (which are 2011 or 2012) are 3.6. There were 1 or 2 late demonstrators spotted with the lower hump behind the back seat signifying charger had move...

Hi-agree re dealers not being good sources of coming vehicle info. Have put myself on as many interest/info/press release lists with Hyundai as well as dealers as I can in the hope of getting reliable info. Will post as soon as I hear anything definite.

Was at the 2018 event with Melb Uni. (I work as there as the e-car safety trainer/electrical systems advisor). Was their first electric car-and they came 7th out of 14 EV entrants. (About 32 all up inc fossil cars). Bloody good result for first-ever EV! Event is fantastic showcase for EV development...

Re: Importing a Leaf into Western Australia

Hi there - given the price of importing a 30kW Leaf vs the cost of a new Zoe or Ioniq, I'd buy one of them instead. Zoe has a better range than the 30kW Leaf anyway. (BTW: Zoes do not have DC fast-charge though, 22kW on 3 phase is the fastest they will go). NB: the 30kW Leaf does not have any form o...

Re: HAS ANYONE HAD THIS BLADE PROBLEM?

Possibly overtemp sensors limiting power. Could be controller, motor or BMS. If it does not reoccur in cooler weather - that probably is it. The Blades without cooling do not like really hot weather. Given the difficulty (read: 'impossibility') of getting into the programming for either the AZD cont...

EV tuk-tuk off left Melbourne for drive to Cairns on Saturday

Hi all - the EV tuk-tuk done by RMIT students has left for all points north. Lots of traffic last week within the committees about meeting up with it - bit last-minute for Melb AEVA though as we only found about it last week! Other states will get a better chance to organise events though. Have fun....

Hi all - would like to add a note of caution that built-in RCD protection is listed as 'optional'. IF you were thinking about ordering one - you must order it with Type B RCD protection. As for switching 16A currents without a decent sized relay to be seen - seems to me a rather unlikely candidate f...

Re: HOW LARGE CAN I CHARGE?

In that case, yours has the electronics. ☺ It will talk the EVSE into turning on and pull from the wall EVSE whatever the charger is set for. (Blades never pull much, so the chances of it exceeding the EVSE settings and confusing things are pretty close to nill). Cheers Bryce

Re: HOW LARGE CAN I CHARGE?

Not a safe assumption. My mk5 Blade had a J1772 but did not charge on EVSEs. The one I am working on now plus last one I fixed both do. (Those were both 'upgraded' versions. Mine was an early fitted J1772 version). Easy to test, try it on either a portable or wall mount EVSE! Cheers Bryce

Re: HOW LARGE CAN I CHARGE?

Hi there-it's not the wallbox you need-it's some electronics you need to add to the car to convince any wallbox to turn on. Search for 'modular EV power AVC2'. You just add it to your car J1772 inlet socket and you are good to go for any AC EVSE. I have it on my Berlingo conversion and it works well...

Re: HOW LARGE CAN I CHARGE?

Hi there - your Blade possibly won't work with Mode 3 EVSEs (i.e. the fixed wall box AC ones) as they communicate with the car to allow charging. Is an easy fix if it won't though. Cheers Bryce

Was driving it yesterday - a blue Zoe.
Was hard to give it back after our AEVA display weekend!
Pity it doesn't have DC fast-charge (my 5th item to your 4 item list) or I'd order one. (Now waiting to look at the Kona EV when it arrives).

Re: Zoe charging

Hi Lou - Zoes here are only 22kW for three phase charging (7kW/30A per phase). I believe Renault de-tuned the charging rate with the increase in battery size from 22 to 41 kWh. (Something to do with too much heat build-up in the longer charge time perhaps?) Also - there are no 43kW (60A/phase) AC ch...
