Re: Vic EV Long-Weekend Tour begins

Yes, the data from the trip show a lot of the effects of altered driving conditions. Day 1 was flat 100km/h driving. Day 2 was up hill and lots of heater. Day 5 was with a very strong tailwind, etc. Will analyse in detail for the final articles.

Re: Public Education, misinformation corrected about EV basics

I do a lot of correcting of EV misinformation - sadly a lot of it is politically driven rather than genuine. More commonly I answer 'EV 101' type beginners questions through doing public talks through AEVA and writing for various publications (see FAQs and Reader Questions sections of TheDriven.io i...

Re: Vic EV Long-Weekend Tour begins

Day 5: Mildura to Horsham to run another fleet EV familiarisation session. As a challenge, am staying at a motel tonight. Was hard to find a room with wiring and switchboard safe for charging (lucky I am an electrician!): but last checked room had new wiring and switchboard-so felt safe to book in/p...

Re: Vic EV Long-Weekend Tour begins

Day 4: Mildura. And it's beginning to dawn on me this not a 'typical' long weekend drive. A tour of over 2300km in 6.5 days (with stops for EV talks) is definitely not your normal restful holiday drive. Yes, was a bit tired last night: hence filing me report the next morning! Now on the return run a...

Re: Vic EV Long-Weekend Tour begins

Day 3 saw me out of Myrtleford at 9.30, with 'nan' the GPS taking a nice but unexpected detour along a windy hilly road to Echuca on the way to Kerang. (My stop tonight). I named the GPS 'nan' as it has a habit of detouring the route through country towns and byways instead of keeping to the highway...

Re: Vic EV Long-Weekend Tour begins

Day 2: stopped at Myrtleford instead of Albury. Longer EV info session than planned in Bairnsdale, and heavy cloud over Hotham-so was tired and needed a beer/feed by 5. Car currently tucked in bed with 15A bottle and feeding happily. :-) Fully charged this morning sometime before 9am (as in I went t...

Vic EV Long-Weekend Tour begins

Hi all- just finished the first leg today of one of our Vic branch's EV Week events-this one the 'EV Long Weekend tour'. Over 360km travelled to Bairnsdale in Victoria's east (via the SHD events at the Cape Paterson sustainable housing estate). Kona arrived with 95km of range left too - it is so eco...

Next Vic meeting: Wed 11th September

Hi all - letting you know our regular '2nd Wednesday of the month' meeting happens again Wednesday 11th. For this one we need a big turn-out to help fill the helper roles for Electrikhana and answer any remaining questions you have about EV Week in general. Remember - Victorian EV Week includes: Ele...

Re: Kona Charging at Fast Chargers

You're spot-on Brenden: I remember reading the Hyundai 'data' of X% charge at 100kW station and thinking they were stretching the friendship with the facts a tad. Kona has a max DC charge rate of 70kW, so if fast chargers are done in steps of 50, then you need a 100kW (or greater) charger to get the...

Re: melb-syd-melb (via canberra) in a Kona

Did return trip Tues evening to Canberra, then Canberra to Melb Wednesday. Amazing car! With Holbrook now open I could also avoid the paying EVSE in Albury too. (MANY thanks to Albury council for making it available though. 👍). Basic stats: left Canberra 6.30am, stops: Holbrook, Barnawartha and shor...

That's because the Kona is only 70kW max for DC charge. (Allows the perfect time for a relaxed breakfast and/or coffee if doing a major charge on a long trip. :) )

Bryce, can you point me to where, in the Nissan Leaf Owner's Manual, it says the supplied EVSE is only for emergency charging? Here's what I find in the printed manual that came with my wife's 2012 Nissan Leaf, page CH-6: "Normal charging is performed using an 110-240 volt dedicated electrical outl...

Re: Home charging

Hi there-as an electrician and EVSE installer, to answer your query re what to use to charge at home: the EVSE that comes with it is really only meant for emergency use (like a spare tyre). Better to use a properly designed EV plug/ socket combo if you want long lasting connections. All the manufact...

melb-syd-melb (via Canberra) in a Kona

Hi all - decided to put test the Kona electric's interstate travel credentials by driving Melb to Sydney for this week's EV conference there. Must say the experience has been fantastic so far. Just be nice to do more top-ups to 80% rather than the obligatory 100% charge/1 hr extra wait at Albury to ...

Re: Template letter for a business or commune to install a charging station. Anyone?

Hi Patrick-here in Vic we actually have an EV Charging Support sub committee doing that sort of work. We have brochures, signs and advice support to give. We also regularly give public talks on EVSE installation and charging in general, as well as talking to local gov and policy groups. Pointing any...
