2 Speed Gearbox

Gearboxes without a clutch are a no go, drove one without a clutch and didn't like it at all. I want quick and hard changes so it doesn't loose momentum getting it into the next gear. Has anyone tried using a low-mass armature motor, like a pancake motor? The armature wouldn't weight much more than...

You're not wrong there - evworks has the Mars ME0709 for $600-ish, while evehicle.com.au has what appears to be the same motor for $1495!

Agni sounds like a good light (11kg) motor, and a little more power than the PMG-132. It can also be timed to run in either direction, and they give heaps of useful info on their website. BLDC motors (Mars, or PMS156) are probably a little too high in RPM for me, I'd like a single reduction to the r...

Voltron, the Electric RG!

How big (physically) are those batteries, and how are you fitting them in? That was always the stumbling block with my earlier attempts at building an e-bike (back in the Age of Lead). I was thinking 22 cells x 90Ah Thunderskys for 72V, or 60Ah ones if they are just too large. But remembering my RG ...

Hi all, I'm also looking at building an electric motorcycle. To this end I've found some attractive motors: Lynch-design pancake motors, all of 5-7kW continuous, around 90% efficiency at 72V, and a manageable RPM. Perm PMG-132 and Agni are ironless armature brush motors, and the Mars is a brushless ...

Voltron, the Electric RG!

Did you import the Agni's yourself, or is someone bringing them in? Was there any drama getting them? I'm looking to build a bike with one (I used to have an RG, so yours is nostalgia :-)

Ebike Power limits, proposed legislation

FYI to a proposal for a change to the current 200 watt maximum power limit of e-bikes. It comes from the NSW RTA and is dated late 2009. I don't know any more about when/if it will be adopted and whether it will be consistent nationally. http://www.bv.com.au/file/file/RTA%20May%2009.pdf It replaces ...
