electric bike kit supplier suggestions

thanks for replies. So am thinking that I should go with the motor, independantly chain driving the back wheel. That way I can put a Cog with freewheel on it. The only extra friction when not using the motor would be the friction inside the freewheeling cog.

With hub motors, when you just want to cycle along without using power assist , Does the motor slow you down .....       I mean is there spinning resistance to the wheel caused by the motor - which slows the bike. I am thinking of the brushless DC motors. I imagine it would be a very small resistanc...

Faster than a speeding car

What caught my eye was     in this 25km/h zone , the car reporting this horrible crime was travelling a little over 60 km/h. I mean how terrible for a quiet non polluting vehicle to be doing the exact same thing that this car was doing........ They posted the particulars of where this horrible offen...

I think that sound effect is really funny [ but I used to drive a Beetle ].
With different sound effects and the ability to turn it off - it would be great fun.... I still want to go with this idea.
I keep telling the family I will have a clip clopping horse sound with appropriate whinny   :)

this looks an ideal commuting vehicle. How safe do you feel when motor vehicle traffic is around?
Do you feel that they " actually see you " .?

Did a bit of digging and found that the car I had in mind when asking this question was the Alpha Lujo. The Chery car company are thinking of importing their S18 at a later date. I just have this image of a strengthened rear bumper, some large pin conectors with retainers that the whole gen set just hooks into .... number plate relocated. Come home , trolley the gen set to back of car , clip it in place, start the generator and off I go. Thinks - 80 kg hanging on back of car...

very nice info Rattrap. I like the research that went into that RXT.
I can see myself going through that process of design on a smaller set up & making a smaller prototype for myself. Great ideas in that research. Once I actually get my DC car going   :)

did some more reading and what I found was that the typical car battery is not suitable for frequent deep cycles.
Is it mandatory to use the Deep Cycle batteries ? for electric cars.

Charging Habits & Depth of Discharge

I am researching battery options for my first conversion.
Lead acid batteries - the cheap car battery types - I am guessing are limited by the very small amount that can be drawn before running them too low and causing damage.
Am I on the right track here?

Thanks very much , every one for your replies. The Oval window Beetle is fantastic " in my oppinion "   but I dont think people want to pay much for these cars.
