Re: EV-Only "Fuel" Tax On The Govt Agenda

This makes me furious :evil: This would be a $1600 tax per year for me. I've done many days of calculations to find out how I could justify an EV, and some idiots change the rule... But the reality is that it is not the money. I am simply deeply ashamed (more than before) of my government. They don'...

This is the estimated range on the GoM after my last 100% charge (very rare to preserve the battery)

This was the day after the 30+°C day. I had been using the aircon all day but still returned a 10.7kWh/100km. The Kona is amazing !

Re: Kona EV Real World Range Experience

If you have the car for a decade, you save $50K, most of the purchase price. I reckon a new Kona EV is better than any new petrol car you could have bought for the remainder of $20K. I fully agree with you but... A decade for me is 400'000km . Will the car survive that? Probably. Will the battery s...

My stats for October, first full month: Total distance: 3285km (106km daily average) Average consumption: 125Wh/km Average speed: 48.8km/h Use of heating/cooling: About 5%/5% of the time, most of the time on the full car. Still charging as much as practical at public chargers. Total charging cost fo...

I'm not sure how old this page on the VicRoads website is but it clearly says that the stickers are available from any VicRoads Customer Service Centres. https://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/registration/registration-fees/concessions-and-discounts/hybrid-vehicle-registration-discount Surprisingly, the bo...

Re: I've got my Kona

Sorry, off topic. I was looking for a good place to have sushi yesterday... Found it ! I asked why Sushi Kona but the workers had no idea. A Japanese Google search returned a not very romantic definition of: flour, powder or dust. Dust is the only one that makes sense as I sometime leave people in m...

Thank you. Fantastic data. Strange to see how Melbourne - Adelaide is a charger's desert? ChargeFox announced their end of 2019 plan, do you know if it is possible to get more accurate dates for specific sites? I've got a few trips coming and need the Ballarat one ideally before the end of October (...

Re: Fast charging infrastructure - forward-looking overview

Chuq, this is an amazing map/information!
Would it be possible to show the already operational ones?
For example a little green dot for the 50kW and a big green dot for the 350kW ones?
Well done and thank you for sharing.

But as mentioned before, I wear a beanie and Hug boots when it's cold, drive very conservatively and I'm a truck slipstream specialist on the highway (actually the Kona's ACC does the hard work).

The short answer: Pros: They allow you to carry stuff. Cons: Even the best ones make some noise at high speed and they WILL make you use more "fuel" even if empty. The longer answer, from having used many from cheap and nasty to way too expensive, put the money for the "tear-drop" shaped ones. They ...

Re: Making home EV ready

What I am excitedly awaiting is the wide spread of V2G. This will be a small revolution in the way to use electricity. Most of us on this forum have lots of available kWh in our garages. It makes complete sense to use this at night and charge during the day when the sun is shinning. Completely ideal...

Re: Making home EV ready

I drive about 100km average per day and decided not to purchase any charger for home. I use the 6/8/10A charging cable that comes with the Kona to a standard plug in my carport. My reasoning, a 7kW charger, installed by an approved electrician will set you up very close to $2000. That is more than 2...

The charging rate is not an exact science... I tried last night on a 22kW Tesla charger in Warrnambool and here is what I got:
  • Maximum = 7.6kW
    Reduced = 6.9kW
    Minimum = 4.8kW
Cheers,

Indian Kona EV comes with spare wheel
I'm not surprised... For having spent a few months in India, many k's on the road including a head-on collision with a truck in a taxi... Any car in India should come with a spare.

By the way the return trip averaged 13.4. Average speed 10km/h lower on the return due entirely to crossing Melbourne during a particularly bad peak-hour. This car is totally amazing. Although road noise at 100 or more is not fantastic. I really wish they had put better tires. This is one of the rea...

I am happy to report that all Tesla destination chargers on the way and in Portland (from Melbourne) work on the Kona.
