Re: PIP-5048GE, PIP-5048GK and PIP-5048MG inverters (with unsafe SCC)

The strange part is that I did the test when there wasn't significant sunlight... It was around 4pm. So I was surprised to be getting 9.7 and 11A. Oh, 4pm. You might have mentioned that in the original post. I don't think you can complain about 6.7 A @ 4pm. But then, like you, I'm quite surprised a...

Re: PIP-5048GE, PIP-5048GK and PIP-5048MG inverters (with unsafe SCC)

- 2 panels read below spec 6.7A Is this short circuit current in full sunlight? Measured at about the same time (i.e. with the same sun strength) as the ones producing 9.7 A and higher? Yes I did them the same period, like moving from one panel to the other within few seconds. The strange part is t...

Re: PIP-5048GE, PIP-5048GK and PIP-5048MG inverters (with unsafe SCC)

I am no expert here but from what I read, the total output of string is limited by the panel with the lowest current, so in your case it would be the panel with 6.7amp. Sorry for the confusion it's actually 5A that has been my max harvest in the last one month (I have updated my initial post accord...

Re: PIP-5048GE, PIP-5048GK and PIP-5048MG inverters (with unsafe SCC)

I am wondering if this affect the performance of the inverter? i.e does the harvest reduce as the temperature increases? I haven't read the firmware for these models as thoroughly as for the MK series, but it looks like no, the PV current does not appear to derate with temperature. There is no sepa...

Re: PIP 3024GK Error 09

Hello,

I am using this exact model and the temperature goes as high as 45degree, now I am worried seeing your post. The manual indicate operating temperature to be up to 55degree. I am not yet up to 14 months of usage hence would like to hear suggestion on how to prevent this issue.

Re: PIP-5048GE, PIP-5048GK and PIP-5048MG inverters (with unsafe SCC)

Those PV current readings are so confusing. They could be panel-side or battery-side, and they could be total or net into the battery. Yes indeed, though I have an external monitoring system so that makes it easier for me to know which is which. I am attaching the highest I could get today from a 2...

Re: PIP-5048GE, PIP-5048GK and PIP-5048MG inverters (with unsafe SCC)

My question is whether this is normal behaviour with 3024 GK series; does more batteries mean lesser amperage generation? Are you referring to current on the PV side, or on the battery side? Am referring to the current on the PV side, before I added new panels I used to get up to 8A!see attachment)...

Re: PIP-5048GE, PIP-5048GK and PIP-5048MG inverters (with unsafe SCC)

Hello folks, I am trying to get my head around this; I have noticed that since I added 2 more panels and got 4 new batteries my instantaneous hervest in amps has never gotten above 5amps. However when I was using 6 Panels with 2 batteries, there was a day I got 8.2amps. Today I decided to test the 2...

Mike See attached the Trend for today: Trend 2019 05 15.PNG It is interesting to see that there were more dips in the morning than in the afternoon. Also interseting to see while the Inverter was in Bypass mode no dips occurred. It might also be due to the batteries that were more charged in the af...

What is the setting number or abbreviation? It it's setting 13, this is usually called the "back to battery" voltage setting; I suppose it might be called the "back to discharge" setting, or similar. What do you recommend as an appropriate battery settings for a VRLA 24v battery set-up because I fe...

My GK series has a settings called battery discharge voltage, mine is at 27v and I have noticed that the inverter will switch to battery once it gets to 27v. Is this a normal behaviour?

Re: PIP-5048GE, PIP-5048GK and PIP-5048MG inverters (with unsafe SCC)

Ah, I misunderstood, sorry. I thought you lost your loads at 5pm. I have no experience with the high voltage MPPTs. Perhaps other owners can post what voltage or time their MPPTs switch off. I agree that since the MPPT voltage range is given as 120-430 VDC, then the MPPT should still be producing p...

Re: PIP-5048GE, PIP-5048GK and PIP-5048MG inverters (with unsafe SCC)

Actually, I didn't realise at first (the second post is rather blurry), but the icon that is missing isn't the MPPT, it's the battery . So perhaps by 5pm your problem is overcharging of the battery. Do you have logs of battery voltage, or can you just watch the battery voltage towards the end of an...

Re: PIP-5048GE, PIP-5048GK and PIP-5048MG inverters (with unsafe SCC)

The intention of the equalisation settings is to periodically overcharge a flooded lead acid battery , so it keeps the cells equalised, and you just top up a bit more water as a result of the over-charge. You don't want to ever do this to a lithium battery of any chemistry. However, you have contro...

Re: Idle and Load consumption - PIP 3024GK

Thanks a lot for the feedback It consumes (wastes) more power when the inverter is powering a load, but then it's not idle, so it's not idle consumption. Most of the PIP series have about 93% efficiency on the inverters, excluding idle consumption. So about 7% of the load power is wasted as heat. So...

Idle and Load consumption - PIP 3024GK

Hello Folks, I have a 3024GK series setup with 6 panels in series connected to two 24v 150Ah batteries. The manual says that the idle consumption is <35w, however I have seen from a forum where it was indicated that it actually consumes more and that it's consumption increases as load is added. Does...

Re: PIP-5048GE, PIP-5048GK and PIP-5048MG inverters (with unsafe SCC)

Since you are at almost 130 V at least some of the time, it seems that just one more panel would get it started. However, you'd likely want the six to allow some production during poor solar conditions. [ Edit: added "since @exup ... panels". ] I have gotten 6 and controller starts up with mppt fro...
