Re: jonescg's home battery storage system

I thought the sensible thing is to leave the neutrals tied like so in blue:
In a number of countries the inverter must totally disconnect from the grid which is a safety concern for those working on the poles.
Without a proper earth on the neutral 125 volts or more can be put out on the neutral

Re: PIP inverter repairs and hardware modifications

Have had two fans fail I replaced them with spare from spare inverter
have a source of spares been found?
Note they may have not been working for a while but as the inverters have temp controlled external fans it still worked and could not overheat.

Re: PIP-5048MK inverter

jannie Get a copy of Realterm and install that on your computer with this terminal program I can send commands to the inverter and get the data back it has a send function that lets you send byte values so you can send the CRC with the QPIGS command. This will show that you can communicate with the ...

Re: Inverter for 48v off grid - PIP xxxxx or something else?

Could I put a filter on the 240vac supply If I was building a system now I would put MOV voltage units on the system in a number of locations probably where I have circuit breakers, I have a pack of 275v units and will incorporate them in the future The other problem people have had is the 63v capa...

Re: Inverter for 48v off grid - PIP xxxxx or something else?

A problem I find with the PIP MPPT chargers is they are slow to re-calibrate thus the battery will end up having all the load applied to it until they do. I have Esmart 3 chargers and they simply ramp up, with my small set of T105 batteries now 6 years old its becoming a problem so I am going to mov...

Victron MultiPlus 48/5000/70-100 230V VE.Bus $2,475.00
Then you have to get an MPPT charger 60amp 48v $700
so $3175 to get one PIP

Re: Inverter for 48v off grid - PIP xxxxx or something else?

I would not be running 48v for lighting even with the loss in the inverters 230v led lighting is much more efficient. I have compared 12v led lighting to 230v and I can light a whole room brightly with two 10 watt 230v down lights I could use 40 watts of 12v and not get it that bright I have 48v DC ...

Re: Nickel Iron Batteries real data

My cells are in a partly clear blueish case and are second hand showing no signs of problems with the case except for the one that sustained physical damage causing a crack. Yo...

Re: Nickel Iron Batteries real data

An update: I have been running 36 cells in parallel with my 48v VRLA bank for a few months now. For the past 4 weeks they have been getting cycled at discharge rates of around 5 to 8 amps and get charged at up to 20 amps when the lead acid banks are getting their 56v bulk charge. When first connecte...

Re: PIP-5048GE, PIP-5048GK and PIP-5048MG inverters (with unsafe SCC)

I have talked to my inverters over long lengths of cable, with rs232 and the CRC you may find it works ok but you will likely find you need to power the display from a separate supply. Your other choice if you are capable of some hardware work is using two HLK-RM04 rs232 to TCPIP converters they can...

Re: Inverter for 48v off grid - PIP xxxxx or something else?

You may not need parallel units now but if you think you will in the future you could find that you will have to buy two new units then because the model is no longer available as those with the PIP4048s have found. Also with the MPP inverters get twice the power you will think you need , motors nee...

Re: PIP inverter repairs and hardware modifications

I measured the Nextion display and it was 350ma , I hooked it up to the 5v output from the DC-DC power supply
this is running the HLK-RM04 .
The input voltage (from pip4048) went to 10.5v and I had both the HLK-RM04 and 7 inch Nextion display running so 450 to 500ma at 5v.

Re: PIP inverter repairs and hardware modifications

I went and measured the voltage on the input of the DC-DC power supply its 13v while powering the HLK-RM04 which has a 160ma draw at 5v.
I will later try loading it a bit more to see how it goes as I want to drive a 7 inch Nextion display.

Re: PIP inverter repairs and hardware modifications

I think it will the PiB4 is 3.2 watts doing video , 4.5 watts loading XDE which is less than 400ma at 12v and I measure 15v on my units.
Note I run HLK-RM04 off my inverters via 1A DC-DC power supplies from ebay.

Re: PIP-4048MS and PIP-5048MS inverters

I run E-smart3 MPPT chargers with my inverters they work ok with the MPPT units in the inverters infact they work better they take a lot less time to start charging after re calibrating. I have the 40 amp units there is a 60 amp version but it would be more cost effective to get two 40 amp units , 8...

Depending on your electronics skills you could make a high power zener diode that will keep the voltage to less than 130v
by drawing current from the panels as it tries to exceed this.
What is the maximum power point of the panels?

Re: PV Inverters and batteries

If they are sealed batteries you need to keep the voltage to less than 2.4 volts per cell this is the voltage at which they gas causing loss of water and drying them out 12v = 14.4v 24v = 28.8v 48v = 57.6v But as the inverters tend to overshoot I set my 48v sealed banks to 56.4v and often see it at ...

I was going to get 64v PIPs but with the software bugs and the problem of not doing so good a sine wave at the low end of NiFe voltages
I have decided to try voltage boosters.
Note Henkel adhesives had no glue to take KOH long term going to see if I can get a case made to fit the cell.
