FIA Formula E Championship

I thought it ended brilliantly. Crashes get a lot more media coverage and this one was spectacular and well timed for greatest effect with the two leading drivers on the last lap. More people will tune in next race to see what happens between the two drivers next time. Noone was hurt and it was a gr...

Putting an Electric Kart Through it Paces

I' sure there would be at least a dozen aussies in each major city that would be keen to build an electric kart and start a competition, hiring an existing kart track a few times a year for an electric kart meet. The challenge will be to get them together and agreeing on a motor, battery and control...

Putting an Electric Kart Through it Paces

Australia mines the raw materials and Rod designed and produces the BMS in Australia but batteries are made in china, the sevcon controller is a european controller and motors are motenergy, an american company but not sure where they are made. I don't know much about sprint kart frames, but I have ...

Electric Sprint Kart

After taking Rod's kart for a spin and finding out how much fun an electric kart is, I was keen to share the experience. Rod kindly let me write it up on Instructables. Here is the link if you are interested in an overview of building an electric kart. Rod's Electric Race Kart on Instructables Inclu...

Putting an Electric Kart Through it Paces

Had an absolute blast in Rod's electric kart recently and have put together a summary on building a gas beating electric race kart

Any comments on the article or suggestions on how to improve the kart appreciated as is your votes in the Instructables "Battery Powered" competition.

Thanks

Yes thanks to the organisers for all the work put in. Thanks to Chris for your energy and enthusiasm, marshals for keeping it running smoothly, info displays, BBQ crew and people on the front gate (Richo put in a long stint),

Electronic Splitter for Throttle Outpu

A double channel digital pot sounds like a good idea to facilitate adding throttle programs. I don't understand the voltage reference issue but this may have been what I had been warned about previously. Also if the 5v input is coming from the controller is it possible / likely that there is more to...

That would be very simple if it works, are there any risks of smoke and tears?

Electronic Splitter for Throttle Outpu

Two resistive throttles connected to a 5v power supply from each controller, so I believe this means the controller throttle input is 0-5V.

Throttle used is one of these

It's a resistive throttle pot (supplier link) http://www.evworks.com.au/index.php?product=CTL-EVW-TBX-5K My understanding is that it takes 5V input from the controller and returns a 0-5V signal back to the controller. From my limited understanding of the way things work, I thought it would be ok jus...

Just wondering if anyone knows where I may find a circuit diagram for an electronic splitter to convert one throttle output into two. I am currently running two throttle pots mechanically connected to output to the twin controllers on my EV. An electronic splitter would be more elegant solution and ...

Torque Vectoring or Traction Control - Twin motors

Have got the test project up and running now and the approach works perfectly without spinning the inside wheel, even on loose gravel. That is of course unless you want to spin them.

Its also quite quick to build. Most of my time went into design and sourcing parts, the build component is actually quite fast. Unfortunately producing custom bodywork is laborious and slow, so am still trying to find someone with a body mould I can use to short cut the process. Also would love to s...

I've been focussing on a new EV build project which only just got up and running in November and Rod has been assisting me on the odd day when there were not other commitments, so the River Raiders weren't prepared for the EV Challenge this year, but I agree that the changes to the rules are not at ...

Really big aluminium extrusions are possible, but not readily available and they will typically have a much heavier wall thickness, so pressed ali is the way to go. I have used 6mm socket screws into rivnuts at 50mm spacings to hold the lid down (should have put that in the instructable) and it is w...

Torque Vectoring or Traction Control - Twin motors

had power out myself for two days myself, week before last, reinforcing my own plans for an inverter for backup power. I don't think the motor controllers are going to drive a household AC system directly, so might be more important to match voltage to standard inverter input. I'm bemused by the tho...

Have discovered my motors (twin AC induction motors, RWD) which are now installed and power cabling done http://forums.aeva.asn.au/smileys/smiley4.gif have controllers that use the canbus system discussed previously in this thread, so maybe that could be used in managing motor torque for traction co...
