Help with Prius

Had to tow it back to toyota and they reset the codes and it would start again at 25%. Other forums note that 20% is minimum to attempt restart. The main code I can see was reset but other Pruis specific codes I could not see. I have a scanner now that should show all the toyota codes for next time ...

Thanks, but the 2004 model is very different. MAF sensor: thermistor is about 26K , wasn't game to test voltage output as part number is different and thermistor at least does not match 2004 model. Coolant temp: seems ok, read a value in expected range for the temp. Crank shaft: under the car and it...

FYI For those interested it seems mini vci is the device to get. Ensure you get firmware V2.0.4 or later else it won't do a lot of things. You will need to hack the drivers to get it to run on windows 10 or other 64bit OS, or use win xp if you can. You should then have techstream access, note it sti...

Help with Prius

Yes I can check out a few of the items that don't require special tools. FYI I am an electronic engineer, and did start out as an apprentice mechanic, and have built my own ECU's for ICE engine racing in the past. So my ego cannot cope with not fixing my own car ;). Tried charging the aux battery bu...

Help with Prius

Well I certainly hope it hasn't worn out, it hasn't done many k's and the car is about 8 years old. It is however the first time I have had a car I can't fix myself. Perhaps if I get some better obd software I can find the other codes. I've only had it about 1 1/2 years so the economy of an expensiv...

Aux battery shows uo as 11.6V, SOC % is 25.1%.
VHB and VLB (volatge before and after boosting) are not showing up.
DC-DC converter is shutdown.
HBATT % is not showing up.
Are there any fuses that need checking for this fault?

torque has a clear fault codes button. I did that, the prius beeped a few times while it was doing it but the warning message remained on screen at all times, even after power cycle. It still returns no fault codes.

I used torque light to clear the code and it did. However there is no new code (or the old one) being generated again. It is now not showing any fault codes.
Thanks

Hi, I'm having some issues with a prius someone may be able to answer. The car stopped and displayed hybrid system fault. It would only go as far as a few metres after trying a few time to get it to go again, and then would not do anything besides display hybrid system fault. When I checked the faul...

Well sadly the prius is an orange ex taxi, so aesthetic preoccupations will prohibit me from buying it. It is ending today on ebay if anyone is interested. It should go pretty low. The owner said he has never replaced a battery in a prius taxi. However the gearbox may go at this number of km. He sug...

Yup that's right I plan to make it plug in. 100km/h sweet, perfect, I was thinking I could even live with 80km/h for 90% of the time. Drastic hacking sounds like fun, sign me up! So your thinking is if we hack via nefarious means then we don't need the engine much at all? 500K + kms and you still th...

Hi Guys, There are some prius's coming up for sale so I'm trying to get an idea of what they're worth. There are 2 ex taxis but one at least seems it may have an almost dead traction battery, 2007 model. It will come with RWC but might not be worth registering until mods and battery packs replaced. ...

Hi, sorry if am repeating anything already said. Just want to add a few general tips for PCB's. Add a polygon around the whole board top and bottom layer if it is 2 sided. Don't forget to set clearances for the max voltage you expect to see. Add vias wherever possible approx 5 -10mm apart. Add vias ...

Some others commented in another forum about them costing 100-150K. So they are only selling as development items not production or enthusiasts items.

Wheel Hub Motors

Hi, At the meeting last night I spoke about wheel hub motors and met some disbelief about their specs. Probably a lot of you know of PML flightlink who made the Hi-Pa drive. The company has now split and the section that makes hub drives is now called protean electric. The original specs for motors ...

Seems others are still grappling with integrating with exsiting control systems. The stability control is giving issues as it controlled the ICE torque and ABS braking to reduce under or oversteer(or moose/elk). Yes I was referreing to Making my own controller. If I can make my own engine management...

MB a160 w168 conversion

Hi all, I've been lurking for a while and when I attended the EV festival in brisbane this year, james from tritium suggested to me that a mercedes benz a class would be a good car to convert due to under floor space. Well I brought a 1999 a160 last week, not just on james suggestion alone but also ...

Aluminium-Ion Battery Technology

The Link about ORNL al Ion battery is vague at best. It is clear that AL Ion batteries do exist but the link does not explain how Hydrogen prodcution and oxidation are dealt with. You will also note that europosition were charged with fraud as they seem to not have done any R&D in relation to AL ba...

Minimise finished EV weight

Paul, I like your idea of trying to calcualte engine weight to try and pick the best donor car. I haven't seen any vehicles of recent years that still use cast iron heads, and I have rarely seen many alloy blocks. I haven't been aware of any recent trend towards alloy blocks, correct me if I'm wrong...

how would you do this

Niiiice, I was thinling of that myself. Mowing the lawn never so much fun. Well a simple Lm317 circuit will fix your 6V supply for your RC gear. But you still need 12-24V inverter. You could see if commercially available or make one. The other alternative is to have your alternator charge one batter...
