Re: Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid motor

I placed a thread in the technical - motor section as I have a Ioniq Motor here in Perth. I will be testing this in due course to see what it can do. I have had issues with photo uploads so hopefully you can see these... Front.JPG Back.JPG I take it this view is from the back where the the large di...

Re: Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid motor

Hi Richard, any further progress on this project Ioniq hybrid motor controller or using a higher voltage pack to spin it faster? Just thinking it could be another option for repowering the VW Kombi.

Re: AGM for home storage?

Recently finished an AGM battery replacement with Winston LYP cells. The original AGM battery was built from 2v 600Ah cells to build a 48v battery. We replaced it with a 300Ah lithium battery, removed the 5kva on a good day heavy as lead inverter and replaced it with 2 x PIP 5048 inverter/chargers i...

Big bugga, how much real useable capacity in there? Can the 5kW inverter actually pull a continuous 5kW out of the battery until it is fully discharged?

Re: EV-Only "Fuel" Tax On The Govt Agenda

If the tax is one of those things they are going to bring in no matter how much we complain, will they also tax hybrids? That would be a double tax if they did, one for the fuel and the other for the kms travelled x weight or what ever formula they decide on that will make them the most money. The o...

Re: EV-Only "Fuel" Tax On The Govt Agenda

How about we propose a reduction in politicians wages and pensions to off set the loss of a fuel tax that is used to supplement pollies wages at the moment? That would put the pollies on the back foot trying to justify why there is a fuel tax at all if it isn't going into improving roads but into th...

Re: That truck

Do you have a link to the connection between the Horsley battery and keeping the Qld grid up and functioning? I'd love to jam that down the throat of an antagonist on another forum. I think he is a PR spin doctor for the coal fired and gas fired power stations and anti renewable energy and battery b...

Re: PIP-4048MS and PIP-5048MS inverters

I found with the PIP inverters with the 80 amp MPPT solar controller, 4500w for the 48v units was borderline but if the open circuit voltage reaches close to the 145v mark, the unit shuts the charge controller down until the Voc drops well below the 140v mark. Generally not an issue in the morning b...

Re: Vectrix VX1 Lithium for sale

Is there a build thread anywhere for the upgrade to lithium battery power? What range does it have now? The fact it is in the Perth area is an issue for me, I don't trust it being transported over without everyone in the yard taking it for a spin each leg of the trip over and it getting scratched or...

Re: Prelude conversion project - some questions

Possibly a water heat exchanger, https://freezetec.com.au/products/marine-refrigeration/seawater-cooled-condensers/ water can carry 3 times the thermal energy of air, so the same area water radiator as the air conditioner condenser radiator would effectively equal an air conditioner air heat exchang...

Thank you Brendon, much appreciated. The Fb1-4001 has a max voltage of 144vdc, is that nominal as in 45 cells @ 3.2v nom. or a ceiling upper voltage limit? Could it be used with another controller at say 273.6vdc max, nom. 243v, 76 cells @ 3.2v nom? Maximum RPM would be insane and useless really, bu...

Is it a new contactor or old or did you get the upgraded gigavac already? My experience is if contacts weld once they'll be very prone to weld again and again. It was new once ;) But yeah, this one has welded several times now. I wouldn't mind getting one of these GV350 units, but it looks like the...

Re: No more i-miev's

Hadn't thought about that angle Matt, yet another reason to go for the bigger battery pack, the resale value after 5 yrs or 7 yrs because the EV still has an excellent range capability where the minimum size battery pack would show a serious loss of range by the 5 yr or 7 yr mark.

Re: Prelude conversion project - some questions

I can investigate that tomorrow, if I remember that is  but a momentary pulse of 24v to pull it in with a 12v continuous supply would verify if that was the case. I still have quite a few 24v Gigavacs without the aux wires that I could still use if that is the case. I went back to 12v supply fo...

Lets say you drive 300,000km before a battery change in 10 years on the standard pack. Now lets say you still drive 300,000km in the 10 years but you pay an extra $10,000 for a bigger pack. Or perhaps you still drive 300,000km in the 10 years but pay an extra $25,000 for a super sized pack. Then ma...

Re: Prelude conversion project - some questions

Well in the case of the drive contactor, I might swap it out for one of these: https://www.gigavac.com/sites/default/files/catalog/spec_sheet/gv200.pdf The auxiliary contacts are good for indicating it's on (or stuck). I didn't wire up the auxiliary contacts on the master contactor, mainly because ...

As far as the water storage generation, does the fall need to be that great? What about an https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archimedes%27_screw that could lift the water via a windmill and crank arrangement that could be declutched from the shaft to allow either excess solar energy to drive the screw v...

Brother in law does exactly that on the side of the Huon Valley overlooking the river, but he only requires a20 mtr fall. There is a couple of springs feeding into the upper dam as well so he doesn't need to move as much of the water back up the hill. Often thought about adding a few of those billab...

Storing energy

The way we normally view storing solar voltaic energy is in a battery because this is a bit like cash in the wallet, it can be used for a number of different purposes depending on just where it needs to be used. But energy can be stored for specific uses as well, and maybe cheaper than batteries. Wi...

Re: Off-grid solar diagram / ideas

The solar array I had for my Prius was 290vdc open circuit, so no controller required because the 76 cell pack comes out at 3.8v per cell at the maximum open circuit voltage the solar array could provide, but of course there is no current at that voltage so it never got there. The 15 panels were at ...
