Where to buy a cheap salvaged Leaf

Hi,
To get a salvage Leaf to use as a donor for an EV conversion, would the cheapest be a Japanese import ? Don't seem to be any available at Manheim or the usual auction places, and if you don't need compliance as only need the parts, I am thinking the Japanese route might be cheapest ?

DIY Conversions nearly dead ?

Thanks for the Blade idea, but as this is a bit of a childhood dream, I am looking at an older sports car. Along the lines of the Karmann Ghia.
It will be special car that will get me to the shops and golf course at most.

DIY Conversions nearly dead ?

Good discussion, and some great advice. Still tossing up on the conversion, would be easier in the US where the Volt and Leaf batteries are plentiful. I know you will all hate this, but looking at the nanny state rules, I am seriously considering buying a RWC car to convert so I can transfer the reg...

DIY Conversions nearly dead ?

Hi, I have really really wanted to do an EV conversion for the last 5 years, but have not had the time. Now I am about to retire, I do have the time. Problem is that the DIY industry in both Aus and US seems to have slowed to a crawl. Not many posts on forums, many of the conversion companies either...

Did you do much of the design work yourself ?

Weber who is building an MX5 for over 2 years seems to get stuck at every little stage with one issue or another.
How did you solve the 100's of problems that Weber has run into ????

Marco, I think that it is a good idea you have to not get an official ruling. Most things in life are a bit grey - and it is often best to leave them as such.
A bureaucrat with a strict ruling is very dangerous......

Kiwi, I agree with your interpretation (and hope like hell it is correct). Let's see if Marcopolo has any other info. Funny thing is, if they effectively ban electric car conversions then I am going to go back to my original plan of building a GT40 Kit car. Good to see the Labor Govt. is steering me...

Canada first - Victoria to follow (via mandatory ESC, which is nigh impossible on EV conversions).

Brumby and Co. must really be upset that they were not the first in the world to effectively ban something.

$45,000 for a tiny little "Mr Maggoo" mobile. You are kidding us right ??? You can nearly buy a new Mercedes for that price - totally outrageous. Like all of these rip-off's they will only be bought by the trusted soles we give our taxes and council rate payments to. Very few of us who work for our ...

Very true.... that is until you are involved in a serious road accident. Then the penalties for driving an unregistered, unroad worthy, motor vehicle would kick in. Even if the accident was not your fault you would be held liable for the compensation for injuries to the other parties. TAC would and ...

I still think Vicroads have just invented a black market of illegally converted electric cars. Remember that we do not have annual RWC's in Vic. The only time a car is checked is when it is sold. When was the last time anyone in authority (i.e. a policeman)looked under the bonnet of your car ??? For...

http://www.asashop.org/autoinc/may2007/techtips.htm Something I came across when searching for any info on CAN bus and ESC. It does sound tought to emulate. Whilst I enjoy a challengs as muich as anyone, I think building an EV will be enough of a challenge anyway without having to worry about the ES...

I recently looked into a conversion of a late model 2006 3 series BMW that has ESP. I spoke yesterday to my local BMW independent in Box Hill and he said it is absolutely impossible to keep the stability control when the ICE is gone. He said that they work on these BMW's everyday and even they canno...

From my discussion with Vic-roads, any conversion will be treated as a NEW registration (or car built subsequent to 2011). This would mean that the original ICE specifications would have to be raised, (just like seat belts, indicators etc..), to include ESC. The degree of difficulty to include ESC i...

VIC-ROADS, have stated that they will no longer register any EV conversions, regardless of the age of the donor vehicles, without working SEC, after the mandated period. Where have they stated this? I assume you mean ESC = Electronic Stability Control? Did they mean: a) If the vehicle was fitted wit...

At 1$Aud to .70 Euro I respectfully disagree. Europe is so much cheaper than Australia it is unbelievable. Equivalent property is about 1/2 the price (Australia is surely the most over-valued property market in the whole world). We have hidden costs as well, such as the ludicrous 2% real estate agen...

As Australia seems absolutely determined to replicate the mistakes made in the UK, it won't be long before we drop down to around 25 as well. Bizarre really, we had the greatest country in the world, but all seem content to let the government destroy it due to overcrowding and the resultant "nanny-s...

I used the search but couldn't find the answer to this. If I have, say $12,000 to spend on my battery pack for a heavy EV, then is there any difference in the following; 45 200ah Packs 90 100AH Packs or even 56 160ah packs, As the controller will limit the voltage to the motor I am thinking that may...

I have costed up all of the items I need from your website (WARP 9's, Zilla, LiFePo4's etc.) and then compared it to importing from the USA. By the time I add...

EV Car Wiring Diagram ?

thanks ant,

For some reason I have always pictured the big red button to be in the middle of the dash.

But putting it on the floor near the gear lever which would enable high voltage/current switching does make sense (especially in a direct drive with no clutch).
