Hey guys,

Good news , there is a Tesla in Australia, lives in Adelaide and is owned by Simon Hackett (owner of Internode). Currently on display at clipsall 500 and he plans to get it registered.

Anyone who goes please take some photos!

That is Sooooo cool !

Any info re the registration process would be interesting to hear.
Shouldn't be a problem as a private import ? The whole of customs and RTA / DPI will need to test drive it though ! I'm just filling in a job application now !

In fact, we need full breakdown of purchase price, shipping, duty, GST, registration and width of owner's grin !

Is that a 240V to 110V stepdown transformer in the white box ? Surely not !

Its also going to be in Qld in June.
Tesla coming to Brisbane Greenfest
Sounds like registration might not be possible according to this article because its a new left hand drive model.

It looks like this Tesla will be on channel Ten news tonight at 5pm in South Australia. From the promo it's being driven around a track, and they interview Simon. I'll try and record it if anyone's interested.

Julian Edgar from Autospeed went and drove the car last week, and has posted a quick update here: http://blog.autospeed.com/2009/04/03/my-driving-life-is-now-changed-forever/ Apparently he'll be publishing a full article on the Autospeed site sometime soon.

"Why can't we make cars like that here?"

Don't they have that empty factory sitting there still? :P Maybe Tesla can move in and build the Roadster and Model S in australia!
I'll drive an electric vehicle one day.

Would it be cost effective for Tesla to open a factory here for assembly for the Australian market???...

Or have someone license the rights to assemble over here???...

Just a thought...   ...As I'd love to work there...   :P

From that photo it looks like it is showing the crowd how its battery can power a toaster.

I picked up a couple of the silver ones at Target the other day, they had a 3 for the price of 2 deal, my 5yo son got to choose the 3rd car.

I would love to see a real Tesla, does anyone know when Simon display's his?

Maybe he should get Top Gear Australia to have a look as a follow up to last nights show (and take it around their track ).
